a.Several community driven agricultural gardens have emerged in central Copenhagen in the past few years, providing the local community with everything from herbs, vegetables and fruits. One of them, “Oestergro” pictured below. b.Copenhagen is dotted with green spots, parks, lakes and canals all over the city, regulating air quality, binding carbon dioxide and providing shade and cooling during summer. c.“Amager Common” is a large protected green area in providing natural habitat for several wild animal species, birds and insects, also offering a range of wild edible plants, fruits and herbs. Rare birds nest in the area, along with many breeding songbirds. Foxes, deer, varieties of frog and a small population of adders are frequently seen. d.Amager Common also serves as a recreational space for people living in the city offering a range of activities. As one of the only wild natural sites in Copenhagen it’s an object of study for many people due to its interesting biodiversity and ecosystems, while also possessing great aesthetic and soothing qualities. Due to its many different uses in the olden times it’s also a landmark for many historical events and tales creating a sense of place and belonging for the inhabitants of Copenhagen.
