Canada depends on the United States for the construction materials, same that the United States depends on Canada as well. the bilateral trade relationship between those two countries is the second largest in the world. For the construction industry, Canada import especially from US steel, iron and cement and export to them mainly wood. We can see on the picture a perfect example of the type of construction we can find in Canada, a concrete structure with steel reinforcing bars. The choice of those materials reflect the influence of globalized construction, indeed the traditional architecture in Quebec was originally wood structure and later on some masonry structure with smalls windows to retain the heat in the harsh winter. Today, we see a come back of wood structure even for multi-level building, but the concrete structure still constitutes the majority of new construction choice of material.
