This is “El Palacio de Cristal” (Crystal Palace), located at the Malecón 2000 in Guayaquil. It was built in the beginning of the XX century as a local market and through the years it has been remodeled, but always respecting the original design. The Crystal Palace is a beautiful building made of wrought iron and glass, which is consider a historical monument of the city. The iron was brought from Brussels in the original construction and was prefabricated by the firm Verhaeren Ca JagerIngeneriusConstruiters of Brussels. This is a good example of globalized economy and globalized materials around the world, since the earliest 1900´s.
