Localized activity In image two, you can see the people of Malawi in a pit of mud. They are actually inside an ant hill that is watered down so that it can be used to make bricks. Mud is scooped into brick molds. Then, the bricks are dried and fired. They will spend days making their own bricks to eventually make themselves a home. Globalized economy Bricks are used as building materials all over the world. The people of Malawi are using their own resources to make their bricks instead of importing them from elsewhere. In contrast, the houses that are considered “rich” in Malawi has aluminum roofs that are imported. This imported aluminum is something that is used all over the world in different aspects of construction. For the “poor” houses in Malawi, straw is used as roofing. Straw has been a building material that more and more have been using for building as it is more readily available in underdeveloped countries. The bricks create a construction process unique to their economy. The aluminum creates more of a global connection as it is used for so many aspects of construction all over the world.
