I am currently staying in Cancun for a couple of weeks, I am not in the hotel zone therefore, there is barely any tourist and clearly people seem to be more aware of safety on the streets. Safety issues are reflected in the high walls to separate condos and security men constantly checking them. These condos are 100% relying on electricity, every apartment seems to have more than 3 AC, there are 4 heated pools and lights to make them more appealing. There are no reflectors for cars in case there is no electricity. We rely on infrastructure to make people feel comfortable in such small place - having pool, gym, social rooms and tennis fields decreases residents necessity to go out engage in social activities. We create infrastructure and we end up isolating ourselves from the city center adn surroundings, which also bring negative consequences such as social gap and lack of sense of belonging.
