Uploaded on 2018-09-20 by Anna Rago
The visible information in the photo is the buildings (City Hall, Office Building, Hotel), water fountain, benches, bushes, and people. Because we can see this information, we can infer the hidden information. One piece of invisible information is air pollution. In a city like Philadelphia, the buildings and people exert many harmful substances into the air. This hurts the environment and the people living in it. Another piece of invisible information is electrical, heating/cooling, and plumbing. These are key parts to keeping a city alive. This “power” keeps the city running properly so that its people can survive. Philadelphia is an information city that takes on the characteristic of livable. Taking air pollution for example, people are living in a polluted city. Having the invisible information that pollution is taking over the environment can lead to the awareness that Philadelphia should strive to not just be livable, but green. This becomes knowledge for the developers of the “Future Philadelphia”. Philadelphia can become more livable by using new and cleaner techniques such as low exergy to develop. Using information as a building material and new processes of urbanization can make Philadelphia a more livable space that differs from the past.
