Nanjing main city (14/09/2018, 23:25 local time): 25.7°C Maanshan, a smaller and less populated city nearby at the same time: 24.6°C The first picture is taken when I was standing in between several tall buildings on a university campus. Radiation can be trapped between the buildings and thus cause an increase in temperature. The second picture is taken outside the main city. *I didn't figure out where I can upload a second picture so...:( With less buildings and less people, less heat is generated and entrapped. Plus, the abundance of plants and trees can help create some shade, making the environment more comfortable. I would control the building height/road width so as to decrease the amount of radiation "entrapped" in the city. Also, by smart designing the city, wind pathways can be created through the city, stimulating heat exchange with the surrounding countryside(or so I think). There are policies banning factories from producing too much CO2 and other pollution, or encouraging them to switch to greener energy resource or recycle and reuse the side products. The city has become cleaner and they also promoted public awareness on this issue.
