Monday 7pm in Dalston Junction, London. Straight street consisting of a 3 lane road and approximately 3m pavement. There is a supermarket on the right as part of a fairly new residential complex and on the left hand side there are a couple of bars/cafes at the ground floor level of different town houses. On the top of the beige building we can read "Railway Tavern" and the building is quite isolated. The next one has a huge colorful mural on the side. In the foreground we see a group of people, some are standing, others are walking and there is a lady sitting on the floor with her dog asking for spare change. 1.From the mural (hackney peace carnival) we can extract that it is a multicultural area where music, particularly jazz has been historically very important. 2.The dirty floor is telling us that there are many people using this pavement leaving traces of any kind. 1. If the history of the area was carefully studied by local planners, the planning process would become more participative including people from different cultures and stopping the gentrification that it is currently happening, which makes it lose the genuine value of Dalston.
