2. I currently live in Stockholm, Sweden where the temperatures usually do not reach unbearable temperatures. You can definitely observe the UHI effect in Stockholm, even thou it is surrounded by lots of water. The problem will start to get serious when the climate change will continue with increasing temperatures since the inner urban areas have very little trees in the streets, they are more concentrated in parks. Surrounding natural islands are in comparison quite cold durring summer nights. 3. More greenery in the streets would be beneficial as visible on the photo of the street of new development. Analyzing the wind patterns and street orientation would also be one measure to take. In Sweden airconditioning is not really so common (buildings or public transport). 4. I tried to search on the policies on UHI effect in Stockhom but since it does not have strong impact on quality of life, Stockholm is a city of organisations researching solutions for other cities in critical areas around the world.
