I have to mention that the image was not taken by me. It was taken on the internet : https://www.google.ca/search?q=nouveau+pont+champlain&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjn8srokbPdAhUkw1kKHeNrA1IQ_AUICigB&biw=1440&bih=735#imgrc=SVvnzK4A0YDQFM: The picture illustrates the new Champlain Bridge that is under construction in Montreal. We see in the picture the megastructure that will support the deck, the road, cars and also the train that will pass on the bridge. These 158 enormous steel pieces are from Tecade Factory, in Las Morales in Spain. Not only does the material comes from Europe, but these elements were also produced there as well. It represents a lot of CO2 production because of the shipping from Spain to Canada. I think it would have been possible to find a steel factory that was closer to the building site and also qualified workers to build theses pieces. Evenmore, it would have been interesting to see if there was a possibility to reuse the steel in the old bridge and transform it to build the new. This project shows clearly that construction is not a localized activity, but is influenced by the globalized economy.
