FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2018-09-10 by Laura Pájaro S.
This picture was taken in the Fifth Avenue, located in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo in México. Visible information: pedestrian street, retail buildings, high flow of tourists, restaurants, drainage issues (sitting water) and shop stands. Invisible information: The sitting waters are an indicator for city planners that the soil underground may not be the ideal. It helps to understand the properties of the materials of the area and create a better urban soil management strategy. If the ground is sinking it is required to compact and improve the soil with aggregates – it will also help to determine the maximum height for buildings and the use of the space around the avenue. The amount of informal workers (people selling souvenirs on the streets) provides with information on the average or minimum income on Playa del Carmen, and the degree of dependence on tourism from their inhabitants.
