Some of the effects of UHI are high temperatures in the city, low wind speed, air pollution, such as haze, and high electricity bills. Temperature difference between the city centre (Kuala Lumpur) and surrounding area can exceed 1˚C. This shows that temperature is proportional to the level of urbanisation. Furthermore, wind speed levels are inverse proportional to level of urbanisation. I would propose a more detailed study to be carried out in the city centre and its surrounding suburbs. Moreover, the findings of this study should be made public and used to educate the citizens on small steps they can take to contribute to the reduction of the UHI effect, such as planting more trees. In the Petaling Jaya suburb, the municipal council have taken steps to plant more trees along the road to provide more shade. This is a welcoming move as this makes the area cooler during the day.
