Step 1: List the five most liveable cities that you know: (this is based on my personal experience only) 1. Vancouver 2. Barcelona 3. Singapore 4. Christchurch 5. Birmingham Step 2: Describe in your own words five characteristics that according to your opinion make a city liveable: 1. Stability and safety, including perceptions of safety 2. Presence of green spaces and open spaces 3. Robust and varied transportation system, especially public transport, and a certain level of walkability 4. Inclusivity: many liveability rankings are meant for international companies, and as such ignore this aspect). Relates to cost of living, equality, housing & job opportunities, and minimal segregation 5. Healthcare Step 3: Describe the status of your own city in terms of the five characteristics that you listed above. Propose how your city should/could be transformed in relation to these characteristics in order to be more sustainable. Clearly I'm biased here: growing up in Singapore has been a privilege, especially safety, compared to everywhere else I've been. It's a 'garden city', and has a good public transport system, made easier by its small size. However, it needs better inclusivity in the various aspects of life, and lower inequality.
