Three stocks and flows in my city are density of people, land, and food. In recent year the population density of my city has greatly increased as new offices move into the downtown area. There is a large flow of new educated professionals, immigrants, and people who used to live in surrounding rural areas coming into the city. As a result of this the real estate prices have gone up. There is a fixed stock of land in the city, but by building up more floor area is created. This is happening now and will continue to happen in the future to accommodate the flow of new people. The city is surrounded by farms, and this food flows into the city through restaurants and many local farmers markets. As land and people increase the food need will also increase, and if the city sprawls outward and farmers sell their land the food will have to be imported from further away.
