Module 4 - compulsory Exercise: Heat island effect 1.Check the temperature differences in US cities It is clearly that nearly all cities are hotter than their nearby rural areas, and these cities are also getting hotter faster than the rural areas nearby. The combination of continued urbanization and climate change are going to make cities even hotter, threatening the people who live in urban environments. 2.Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area? I suggest the main UHI effects in Bucharest are: - air pollution - increased energy consumption - adverse impact on health and climate There are studies for Bucharest in terms of temperatures measurements indicating that the central area is under UHI effect. 3.Measures to be taken in the central area of Bucharest:light-colored concrete and white roofs,green roofs,vegetation cover,planting trees. 4.I am not aware about policies taken, but I believe it should be necessary " urban ruling guides and implementation of heat reduction policies"
