Petroleum and natural gas are the dominant fossil fuels in the U.S. Transportation (almost exclusively supplied by petroleum) and industry (supplied by petroleum and natural gas) are the top sectors for energy use. For policy, I would explore renewable energy sources to supplant foreign reliance on oil. This would, in the short term, reduce emissions through the transportation from foreign sources. Secondly, the federal government has offered tax credits for purchasing electric vehicles, and I would continue or increase the offerings. Natural gas has helped the country become more energy independent, but fracking has led to environmental dangers. Heavier leaning on renewables, especially wind and solar, could benefit the country.
