The city of Bucharest is a place where the concept of stocks and flows is relatively easy to notice. The three stocks I found most important are land, homes and green spaces, while the three flows are cars, people, and food. In the city land is a indispensable resource, it can accommodate anything from individual houses, block of flats, any kind of urban function, or trees, so it must be used wisely. Regarding homes, in a continuously expanding city, there is a need for new affordable spaces to live. Finally, any big city with a lot of people must have enough green spaces to clean the air, but at the same time providing a friendly environment for the citizens. Cars and people are probably two of the most intense flows that going in and out of a city, and being the most important city in Romania, Bucharest attracts many employees and as a result cars. Finally, being a service-oriented economy, Bucharest need to bring most of its food from other places. In the future I think that we will be able to build taller buildings, therefore more homes on a smaller area, but land will continue to get rarer resource.
