Many buildings in Sweden - particularly in the country side still show which materials can be locally extracted from the environment. In Southern Sweden stone as building material dominates. Further North - where the landscape is dominated by forests - the main building material is locally derived timber. Generally, Sweden has a positive physical trade balance - the volume of imports is lower than the volume of exports. Surplus is mainly made up of metals and timber with increasing exports of metals.
