First, the picture was obtained from a local newspaper called "El Observador". 1 and 2: Flow: LAND. We have seen the biggest growth in built up area in the last 20 years, mainly in our city's capital Montevideo. The country is too centralised, and that is why most schools, universities, companies (jobs) and entertainment activities are all in just one place. That is why Montevideo is rapidly growing, receiving an increasing flow of people year after year. Flow: FOOD. Uruguay produces almost all of its food needs, but outside Montevideo. That is why everyday the city receives tons of fruits, vegetables and meat produced in various parts of the country. Uruguay also exports between 80% and 90% of all its production. Flow: APPLIANCES. We have almost none production whatsoever of any technology, hence we import everything we need from cables to tv and computers. 3: For all of the above, I think that we should have better recycling systems and policies, because the increase of people living in Montevideo is generating more daily tons of waste, and as the picture shows, we are not being capable of keeping up. We need to able to control this flows.
