As you can see in the picture, this is the construction of a residential building next to my house. Its foundations are mostly cement and steel, and the wooden beams are used mainly for some parts of the structure, but they will be removed once the foundations are strong enough in a later construction phase. We have excellent wood in our country, but our culture prefers to live in apartment buildings instead of houses, because most of the people wants to live in only 5 or 6 neighbourhoods of our country's capital city, although we have more than 50 other fine neighbourhoods. We tend to concentrate near the beach instead of living in a house just outside the city. All of this contributes for the constructions of more buildings which demand more materials that we barely produce, like steel and cement. I believe we should find a way to make wooden smaller buildings (maybe 3 to 4 floors high instead of the +15 floors average of the traditional buildings), that way the costs of construction will dramatically drop although we have to take into account the durability and cost of maintenance that they will carry.
