FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2018-05-13 by Blake
The visible information in this photo includes the basic infrastructure of the road and paved sidewalk. The poles blocking cars from parking in front of semi-detached townhouses. The apartment block hosting studio apartments, student housing, and refugee housing. Cars either parked or idling on the street as was the case of the red work van. Trees and other plantlife. The light poles that light the street up at night. Fences for security, and the bamboo screens most residents have installed for privacy. We see antennas and other electrical equipment. Lastly, we see the rolling down aluminum shutters common in Western Europe. Some invisible information we can/could derive from this photo is the daily availability of parking spots on the street depending on the time of day, sporting events in the area, or time of year. Another source of invisible information we could extract would be the amount of foot traffic the street gets. This information could become knowledge by knowing how to plan similar streets in the area as the area develops. Creating more livable areas in the area could help the area lower its current crime rate, and lack of social cohesion.
