"Construction used to be a localised activity, but with the advancement of construction processes and construction materials almost every building contains components of a globalized economy." This is a picture of the construction site of the Dubai Mall, which is nowadays the biggest mall in the world. I took this picture 8 years ago when I arrived in Dubai. Behind we can also see the construction of the Address hotel which caught on fire last Jan 1st. Contractor is local, material (cement, and steel… which may come from all over the world), Cranes may be UAE made and also international (China, India or other Asian countries…) . Workers are international yet mainly from the subcontinent. Glass may be from Saint Gobain or similar.
