The city of Kongsberg is divided by a river, which means that at least some part of its infrastructure is visible to the naked eye. The most obvious is the need for infrastructure like roads and rail road tracks to be able to transport people and goods across the river in an efficient manner. In addition, pathways have been created along the river bed for people to hike. The river was for a long time also an important source of energy, and a mill (hidden by the bridge in the photo) produced electricity for the city. Electricity has been, and still is, very important for a city located so far north in the northern hemisphere in order to provide lighting and heat during the cold winter months.
