My name is Stephan Schmatz and I live in Krems an der Donau, approx. 70 km from Vienna. Step 1: The most liveable cities I know: 1. Vienna, Austria 2. Hamburg, Germany 3. Prague, Czech Republic 4. Bratislava, Slovakia 5. Madrid, Spain Step 2: Five characteristics that make a city liveable: 1. Security 2. Affordable living 3. Parks, recreational areas 4. Efficient public transport 5. Social security Step 3: Status of my own town: I live in a small town with approx. 25.000 inhabitants, so I describe the nearest city, Vienna (~ 2 mio. inhabitants). Vienna is very secure, the chance to get robbed or murdered is approx. zero. Living is affordable, the city of Vienna is the biggest owner of appartment houses of the world and you can rent these flats very cheap. There are many parks and the public transport is efficient and cheap (EUR 365 for a one-year-ticket). The social security is - as everywhere in Austria, very high. So there is not much to improve. The only thing I don't like is that many inhabitants are narrow-minded and intolerant.
