I have thought of a City Safety App. Johannesburg struggles with a high crime rate, people generally feel unsafe. i am proposing that instead of adding more police officers to the force they add a number of lower educated/trained surveillance officers who will not have law enforcement authorities but can be the ears and the eyes of the police officers on the street. Having uniformed officers patrolling the streets will have a 2 fold effect; 1. people will feel safer / 2. criminals feel watched so crime will go down. citizens can register and be identified via the app and have 2 safety buttons. 1 for alerting suspicious people or behavior and 1 for personal alarm. the control room will be able to see where the citizen is and send surveillance and or police for assistance
