2. Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area? I live in the inner-city of Utrecht, a very popular and dense city in the Netherlands. The national weather institute found a significant effect of UHI’s in this city. In the mornings it can be by average 1,5 degrees Celsius warmer than in the surroundings. In the afternoons this difference has an average of 0,6 degrees Celsius. This effect is created because of the many high buildings and the really small streets of Utrecht. The surroundings of Utrecht are really green and wide. 3. Which are the measures you would propose? I would propose to: - add more green and water to the city - apply restrictions on building height - Realise broader spaces between the buildings. For example with avenues with a lot of green. 4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? Unfortunately not, but I have found some researches from the national weather institute. They have found significant results concerning Urban Heath Islands. So that might be a start.
