As a practising architect in Sydney, there are actually various instances where I would have wanted to employ Citizen Design Science in trying to analyse and design specific areas. The project I'm currently working on is the masterplan of an existing Aged Care Facility and how to bring it back to life. There are lots of external landscaped areas which are dead spaces and not used by residents, and various internal communal spaces that could be put to better use. I would firstly have a meeting with the residents who are up for having a chat with me, and sit down and listen to what they would like to gain from this place. I would note down what the downfalls are, and what issues occur on a daily basis. With this information, I would continue a design workshop with the residents so they get to contribute to the design of the masterplan rather than me presenting it at the end when I think it is complete.
