FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2016-08-03 by Aleksander Ødegård
- Visible information: * Location, density/spread of houses/villas. Sense of a city centre with surrounding houses. * Office buildings in the city centre * A ski resort on one of the hills over the city (which is located in a valley). Shows that it is an area which has snow during winter, some level of activity within the population, possibility of ski tourism etc. * There is a contruction site in the city centre area (slightly visible crane). * Construction of new houses/cabins (left to the ski resort) * Appartment buildings in/near the city centre. * Forests surrounding the city. Says something about the amount of potential ground to build in future. Also provides information in regards to geography and climate (clearly not the sahara), as well as air quality etc. * Hills - Invisible information: * Geographical distribution of wealth. Where the rich, middle class and poor parts of the population live and frequent. * The population`s travel patterns/behavior. This can also be linked to the above point. The rich/poor neighbourhoods may have different travel behavior for instance. - Contribution of invisible information for future planning: By acquiring data about the population`s travel patterns it would be possible to get an overview of which neighbourhoods use private cars for personal transportation versus public transport or even walking/riding a bike. Dependant of the intended use of information and type of analysis performed/filters applied this knowledge would be benefitial for planning and building roads, cycle lanes, prioritization of where to build new housing relative to places of employment as well as setting up routes and frequencies/time tables for public transport. PS! Sorry about the poor quality of the picture. I was only able to take an overview/wide shot of the city with my mobile phone, which does not have that many megapixles.
