This is one of the oldest part of the city, and all the surrounding buildings are constructed with a very specific local material, adobe, prepared in place. Most of the buildings were 1 to 2 floors. This method of construction ended in the beginning of the XX century with the introduction of the reinforced concrete. During the communist regime, the usage of concrete was nearly in 100% of the construction industry, but the production of the materials was inside the borders. After the fall, in the '90, the new economic system presented many different types of construction materials and nearly all the new buildings that were built from the '90 till now, have components of a globalized economy.
