Regulating services: All green areas offer regulating services to us. They act as lungs of the city by removing pollutants from atmosphere and thus improving air quality. In the photo, vegetation is being used to provide cool and calm environment to the people working there. Habitat services: Open spaces in the suburbs of town provide everything plants and birds species that live there with everything they need to survive. The photo shows one such apace which is home to a few bird species. The resulting biodiversity apart from being crucial in itself, is of cultural importance to city residents. Provisioning services: From kitchen gardens to farms on the outskirts of town, one can witness material outputs we get from ecosystem. As seen in the pic, ecosystem enables growing food by provisioning suitable climatic conditions, supply of nutrients etc. We need food thus produced to meet our energy requirements. Cultural services: Many communities in India have their customs closely linked to elements from ecosystem such as trees, animals, rivers etc. Some trees are considered sacred, as seen in the pic, and therefore become means of attaining spiritual and cultural fulfillment.
