FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2018-02-28 by Tim Ewart
The picture is of Stanley Street in Auckland Park, Johannesburg. The building on the left (an old industrial building), now serves as residential loft apartments. Rennovations to the road and side walk include; the installation of a storm water drain and new paving. The layout of the road facilitates parking for a small commercial centre further down the street on the left hand side and for the tall commercial premises on the right hand side of the road. Trees on both sides of the street, offering in some cases shade for parked vehicles. As the picture was taken late afternoon, one will notice that the street lights are on. With regards to 'invisible information' - while the area is part industrial, commercial (large employers) and residential, there exists an obscure and little known shopping centre. The shopping centre mainly incorporates eateries and the odd small retail business. This centre is mainly visited over weekends. The second 'invisible information' item, is a publis gym in the tall building. Where employees are allocated basement parking, external parking must facilitate day visitors - for the shopping centre and gym.
