The most livable cities I know: 1. Berlin, Germany 2. Montreal, Canada 3. Zurich, Switzerland 4.Ottawa, Canada 5.Glasgow, UK The five characteristics that make a city liveable are 1.Sanitation and hygiene contributing to the well being keeping all age groups being users of the city. 2.Having a barrier free design making a city accessible to all 3.A necessity for a breathing outdoor space among all typologies of buildings as a compulsion. 4.Using renewable sources of energy and optimization of resources 5.Segregation of waste and waste water treatment should be a compulsion The status of Mumbai in respect to the above factors mentioned is very specific and location centric. The city as a whole is dense and an amalgamation of the Economic Weaker section and the richest of people in the same walking distance proximity. The dense built fabric lacks breather spaces in most places and hence , roof gardens are coming up to trend but not as a viable option. The waste management is highly poor most of the internal rivers have now become sewage drains because of slum dwellers using the water to wash their clothes, bathe, defecate and also throw trash.
