Image shows one of the six major highways that radiate out of Rohtak. In India, roads and railways function as both transportation and energy (oil & gas) infrastructure since pipelines are not very prevalent. On a territorial scale both gas and oil are almost always distributed using road network as seen in the photo where a oil container fitted on a truck is approaching the city. Up-gradation of road infrastructure has taken largest proportion of money invested in the city during last decade which further points to the importance attached to mobility. Since road network and other infrastructure services are expensive and indispensable investments, it becomes very important to deeply engage with them for the design of the future sustainable urban systems.
