FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2018-02-17 by Christopher Pickering
This is the Vasastan district of central Stockholm. Visible information includes mostly residential buildings from early 1900s with some commercial/office space on the bottom floor. This is a side street with little traffic and clear markings for pedestrian crossing. Some parking is free, there are two people cycling (one with a child on the bike) and bags of construction garbage are seen. Invisible info can be deduced from the two people, who are assumed to be a family. They consider this area safe enough to ride a bike down the middle of the road and the father is safety-conscious and sets a good example by wearing a helmet. This would appear to be a place for wealthy and well-educated based on clothes, cars, and ongoing large-scale renovations. This also appears to be a street meant for sleeping, not socializing. In many ways the invisible info of families choosing to live in this central district already has impacted on urban development. This is the top choice for affluent new families and many new apartments a being built here. They also need to include bicycles in planning, as people choose this street because the next one is full of cars.
