Module 4 - Compulsory Exercise: Heat Island Effect ----- Yue Cao (Amanda) Q1 Ans: According to the Climate Central website, we can see that on average across all 60 cities, urban summer temperatures were 2.4ºF hotter than rural temperatures. UHI effects are even more intense at night. Over the past 10 years, average summer overnight temperatures were more than 4ºF hotter in cities than surrounding rural areas. Q2 Ans: The city that I live is GuangZhou. Because of the UHI effect, temperature in the city centre is 3 degree higher than rural areas. As shown in the pictures, there are larger area of trees and hills in rural area than city centre, buildings are much shorter and less dense. Q3 Ans: I would limit the number of cars entering the city per day, and build more green belts in the city centre. Q4 Ans: Since 2016, bicycle-sharing has been used in GuangZhou. By the end of May 2017, there were more than 700 thousand bicycles in the city for public to use.
