It is well known in my region that UHI effect is strong. In 2003, a heat summer killed twnety thousands people (mostly old people), and it has been shown that most of them were living in urban areas (they had more risk there). I could not find really specific datas about the temperature variation, but it is acknowledged. The Grand Lyon (administration of the metropolis), made plans to deal with this problem and conducted some experiment. They tried to use new materials that could help dimishi the accumluation of heat They implanted a lot more vegetation in the urban space They created some green spaces, in an attempt to diminish the temperature. They also did experiment the watering of the roads during the summer to diminish the accumulation of heat
