1. Check the temperature differences in US cities. - The variations in temperatures are clearly seen. The temperature in the cities is a bit more than the temperatures in the rural areas. The maximum single-day temperature difference observed in last 10 years in US was 17.5°F. 2. Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area. - Gwalior has min temp ranging from 2- 15 degree centigrade in winters and max 35- 45 degree centigrade in summers. The temperature in the city is 2 - 3 degree higher than the temperature in rural areas in both the seasons. As the population is increasing, the built-up area also is increasing which is further leading to the heating effect. 3. Which are the measures you would propose? - I would propose greening of the transportation corridors, promoting green architecture, rooftop gardens, reserving space for landscape in the city and build parks and gardens. Also stop dams may be built to make use of surface drain (rain water) 4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area?
