FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2018-01-30 by Marco Papageorgiou
Two sources of invisible information are: 1: Customer demographics; social status, daily walking habits, shopping preferences. This demographic may also include the volume of local shoppers and international tourists. 2: Supermarket sensor data: Sensors monitoring the shopping habits of its customers, this also relates to the types of foods most commonly purchased - healthy Vs unhealthy. I chose these two types of invisible data streams as they would represent data which a giant supermarket chain would be more interested in understanding for its continual growth. In Australia, one of the largest food and beverage supplier is Coles supermarkets. Coles must keep on track with its competition, and in doing so must know this 'invisible' information that cannot be accessed through up-front interviews of its customers. Therefore, indirect - invisible - data must be collected through shopping habits (using sensory technology) and local demographic data which can be accessed through archived records of credit/debit cards (as these differ based on local/international status), this data must be obtained from banking institutions.
