1)It is clearly evident that the temperatures in the cities are higher than in rural areas. For example, in city like New York, the temperature can be 7 °C (20 °F) higher. 2) As I live in small town (Slavicin), I did not notice UHI effect. On the hand, the situation in Prague is different. According to this book: Counteracting urban heat island effects in a global climate change scenario. (Musco, F. (2016). Cham: Springer International Publishing.) the highest UHI effect was observed in capitol – Prague. "The intensity of UHI is about 1.6 °C when we use average daily temperatures." The most significant it is in the city centre. https://books.google.cz/books?id=dthCDwAAQBAJ&pg=PA374&lpg=PA374&dq=uhi+prague&source=bl&ots=c_bKq0mDqU&sig=3T3muBg-fKyfT4YG382J1lKBpMw&hl=cs&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjH2Y_QuPrYAhURzqQKHWcYAdgQ6AEIVDAG#v=onepage&q=uhi%20prague&f=false 3) Public transportation is very good in Prague and I am happy that electric buses started to being used. I would promote rooftop gardens, green architecture and building parks. 4) As I live in Slavicin, we do not have problems with UHI, so local authorities did not take any steps in this area.
