FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2018-01-26 by Mary Holmes
The first piece of visible information is the presence of people in this urban location and the obvious age range of said people. Next is the high density of shops visible, and the variety of different things being sold; this suggests that the location visible is a more retail based architectural area. Furthermore, the fact that it is raining is evidenced from people’s choice of clothing and the umbrella on the right side of the photograph. You can see a range of architectural details which suggest that this is perhaps not a modern urban area. The first piece of invisible information is the peoples purpose of being in the location and another is how the weather has affected the number of people in the area, is it less or more than normal, are they spending more or less time in the area? Data could be collected in relation to the purpose of peoples visits and then be combined with data from across the city, in a place such as a big data city library could lead to knowledge on which areas are new emerging centers for urban activity and which areas perhaps need more investment for urban regeneration to occur.
