In Edinburgh one of the main UHI effects is air pollution. This is due to the volume of traffic from cars, trains and airplanes. Currently, the city are making more and more streets pedestrian only zones which is reducing the air pollution. Not much can be done with the trains but the tram service has been introduced to encourage locals and tourists to use a more energy efficient mode of transport. If more people walked in the city or tried cycling the air pollution would decrease.
