Five most liveable cities: Tokyo Barcelona Paris Hong Kong New York Top five liveability characteristics: Personal Safety (low crime, low harassment and high tolerance of individual differences) Cultural infrastructure/production (museums, performance, universities…) Internal Transportation (cheap, efficient and extensive public transportation) Liveliness (services and activity at all hours) Food (access to a wide range of fresh food) Singapore’s liveability: Singapore excels in personal safety; no fear of physical attack or verbal harassment. It has a long way to go on cultural factors; new public museums have been established but creative scene is weak. Critical artistic expression needs to be allowed by the ruling party. The city scores highly on transportation and its rail and bus services are being enhanced further. Autonomous vehicles, as they are adopted by uber and grab (ensuring maximum utilisation), will enhance mobility further. The city has become less lively as closing times for bars and restaurants have tightened. Again, a less patronising and paternalistic government would help. Fresh food is limited, poor quality and expensive. Future use of roofs and facades as urban farms may help, as would the turning over of groomed landscapes in public housing estates to communal gardeners.
