In 2016 the Rotterdam harbor imported mass goods (66,3% - crude oil, chemicals, mass goods from agricultural products, ores, scrap and coal) and luxury goods (33,7% - electronics etc). The biggest part is exported again to countries in our hinterland., like Germany, Austria and Czech Republic. In the past the harbor also brought people from over the entire world to Rotterdam. That’s why Rotterdam has the highest density of different nationalities in The Netherlands -between 150 and 175-. A percentage of migrants stay in Rotterdam temporarily for work and others for the rest of their lives. All these different nationalities bring their cultures -and so their specific recipes and food- with them to Rotterdam. There are numerous little shops and restaurants that sell foreign food. Because of historic events the mentality of citizens of Rotterdam for the last 70 years has been one of innovative improvements. It's like the reconstruction of the city after the German bombings never stopped. I believe the combination of technologic innovation and the Rotterdam mentality of 'working as hard as you can' will do wonders for our city. It's not just talking about innovation, in Rotterdam innovation actually happens because of that mentality.
