The dominant sources of fuel are oil products (755), and gas (633). Both are non-reneable, yet represent a significant portion of the countries power framework. Of renewables, Nuclear is by far the largest. Despite the abundance of wind and solar technology and resources of these sources combined account for less than geothermal or hydro individually Transport is the key use of energy, primarily fueled by oil products, however, gas, and electric inputs are present as well. Two policy mechanisms can be utilized to shift the US energy use framework to utilize its abundant renewable resources. First, reduce subsidies for internal oil production and shift funding to increasing solar and wind capacities. utilizing these sources result in less damaging renewable power than hydro power, and more abundant than geothermal. Secondly, shifting transport energy use slowly from oil products to electricity will in turn feed an increased demand for electricity, and to provide this more electricity can be provided by renewable sources.
