One of the biggest urban development challenges faced in India is the traffic, pollution and poor local governance. Assuming the government embraces the ideas responsive cities, a mobile app can be launched that helps citizens directly contribute to the transportation network, as a maps app, that includes all bus, train & metro schedules. This would also help map the roads with highest traffic, the most used routes (where to construct flyovers?), potential new metro routes, etc. If citizens are rewarded for contributing to the data set through the app with, say, metro card points, this could also encourage citizens to use public transportation. If citizens provide personal details, it could also help categorize the cities into zones & densities, which will help infrastructure development. Of course, the app would also be translated into all the official languages of India. In this age where privacy is limited and citizens are skeptical about providing the government with information, the citizens should also be given the option to provide anonymous data and feedback.
