Coal and oil are the major fossil fuels used in the production of energy in India. The industrial sector, followed by the transportation sector, are the major consumers of energy. With regard to policy, the major issue to address is perhaps a trifold problem of lack of adequate infrastructure to support a transition to energy efficient practices, a lack of incentives and penalties to enforce this, and a lack of understanding of the gravity of the situation (climate change, emissions and their connection to the functioning of the sector in question). The scheme in the image attached to this describes a method to address this gap through the involvement of various stakeholders and interested parties (the public, government and organizations and think tanks).
