Reference: Ulkanagari, Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India The two pictures have been chosen to explain the impact of water-related infrastructure in the afore-mentioned area. The first picture show-cases the water-related infrastructure by which the local self-governing body (Aurangabad Municipal Corporation) provides portable water to the cluster of buildings – each with different number of individual apartments – within a plot (smallest parcel of land identified by urban planners for planning activities). Interesting point to observe is that it also show-cases an opening of an underground water storage tank in an open area. Aurangabad City is located in a chronic drought-prone area – every year for 4 / 5 months, the supply of water from the Municipal Corporation is severely short. As an interim arrangement, year all apartment owners contribute to a fund for getting additional water – which is transported by tankers. The water that is brought into the premises is then unloaded into the underground water storage tank through the opening in the open area and then pumped into the overhead tanks for a regulated supply. This is an excellent example of not only how dependent is the life of inhabitants of this location on its water-related infrastructure, but also of how infrastructure has been built to support the dependency. The second picture show-cases a private bore-well that has been installed in the adjoining plot. The residents inhabiting the plot utilize water from the private bore-well to sustain their life during the period of water shortage. This is another example that show-cases dependency on water-related infrastructure – be it private or public. * I have been posted to Aurangabad City for undertaken technology-led transformation of the City to make it Smart and Safe Aurangabad City. All the additional information and perspective is a result of the detailed study and survey of this city. I have tried being to the point and very focussed and mention every detail required – but in case, something is missing, it is on account of me having missed on putting in some back-ground information – in such a case, I would be more than happy to explain the point ** The language may not be apt for delivering an assignment.
