Cape Town is a port city with many stocks and flows. I have selected the three following stocks and flows. Boats, people and products. For the first example, please refer to the attached photo of the sail yacht sailing out of the Port of Cape Town. As a harbour city much of the imports and exports (flows of products) are done through large oceangoing vessels, many of which are 'Capesize'. This includes the large volumes of fruit and fish exported to Europe and North America. Then there are also many recreational vessels such as sailing yachts; both as stock permanently stationed in the city marinas, but also as flows such as the boats partaking in the Cape to Rio competition which takes place annually. All these vessels and products are managed and captained by people. As such people also flow in and out of the city and of course approximately 3.5 million people are permanent inhabitants or stock of the city.
