Stocks and flows Aarhus: 1. Aarhus University as Information Architecture (Stock). Knowledge dissimilation (flow) into the rest of city and country – To information territory and ultimately information country. The flow could be improved by better partnerships between the knowledge producers and knowledge users. I am however critical of knowledge users’ interference with the stock. 2. Young people: Aarhus has a large flow of young people coming from other parts of the country to study giving life to cultural, economic and social activities in Aarhus. Some of them settle here and stay after education and become part of the city stock as they mature. The city can raise the stock by making it easier to settle after and raising overall livability. 3. Affordable housing: It is very important that these young people/students have an affordable place to stay. In Aarhus, we have a good tradition for producing a large stock of good quality and affordable housing. However, that is being tested by the large flow of young people putting pressure on student housing leading to boom in private commercial apartment tenure prices. A solution is to build more student housing and experiment in temporary student housing (which is also being done, but perhaps not in desired quantity). Picture is unrelated. I could not submit without picture.
