First: I apologies for the bad picture. Second: The city is not Aars but Aarhus. Pictured here is a the new light tram and it is a perfect example of how urban planning and construction is globalized. The light tram is part of a sustainable solution to public transport mobility problems and private traffic congestion. It is fully public funded (and ticket pricing) with private contractors. In this case both concrete, labour power, the trams themselves and a lot of other materials are provided by Italian contractors using Italian subcontractors. Mainly due to the fact that the public has to choose the cheapest bid on the project. In this case it has caused some dilemmas due to lack of oversight with especially Italian subcontractors (accused of underpaying staff, physically threatening union members and smuggling cocaine).
